CAT 2014 last minutes tips and tricks to crack the exam
With CAT 2014 exam around the corner, all the examination aspirants might be busy revising those several books and practice papers. At this juncture aspirants should solve many mock test papers to be sure with question pattern.
CAT, which stands for the Common Admission Test, is an aptitude test for shortlisting prospective management students for admissions to any of the IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management) and is one of the most popular entrance examinations for any graduate institute.
This year's CAT paper has undergone various changes. To make the preparation convenient for the CAT 2014 aspirants, we have tried to highlight few last days preparation  tips from best of the instructors.
Questions are framed from five broad areas namely - Verbal ability and reasoning, reading comprehension, quantitative skills, data interpretation and logical reasoning. All the questions would be of multiple-choice type with optional answer choices. The new change is that the test duration would be of 170 minutes this year as compared to last year's 140 minutes. Also, the time duration of the examination has been increased by 30 more minutes. This has also called for an increase in the number of questions that the paper would contain.
Time Management: This year's CAT paper gives 'Section flexibility' to aspirants i.e. candidates have the liberty to attempt any section first unlike previous years where candidates were supposed to attempt questions from sections in serial wise order. This will help to complete the paper on the basis of time allocated by candidates to different sections but at the same time candidates must note that with increase in time and section flexibility the number of questions have also increased. Thus, candidate should devote equal time to complete all the sections.
Number of Questions: This year there will be total 50 questions in each section as against 30 questions in previous year exams. Do not ponder on any question for a long duration. If you encounter a tricky question, which you might feel difficult to solve, just move on to the rest of the questions and when you're done with all of them, return to the untouched questions and try to solve them calmly.
Practice Papers: Pick and solve as many as mock tests possible every day. You do not need to be genius to crack the CAT paper. It's just that your concepts need to be clear and you need to practice as much as possible to be able to clear the paper.
Work Smart: The reading comprehension section consist of comprehensions from various subjects. So student from a particular department are not supposed to have in-depth knowledge of any particular subject. The trick here is to divide the question on the basis of type. For instance pick factual questions rather than those who require interpretation.
Pick the best questions: Since there is -1 for every wrong question, it is very important to pick best 35-40 questions out of total 50. Get acquainted with your strengths and weaknesses and attempt those which will fetch you correct answer only.  Remember 'No mark is better than negative mark'
The examination would be conducted  on November 16 and November 22, 2014 across 99 cities in four sessions at 354 examination centers. All the best!
