The subcommittee, headed by Ganesh Bhat, Principal of MES Teachers’ College, Bangalore, submitted its report to the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) on May 9, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar said here on Monday while declaring the SSLC 2014 results. The subcommittee also included nine expert members and secretary of the KSEEB.
The subcommittee has recommended that the SSLC exam continue as per the new syllabus, but students appear for 20-mark internal assessment.
Besides, the external (main) exam will continue to be conducted for the same number of marks as before: 125 for First Language and 100 for other subjects.
In the overall score, however, the external score will amount to 80 per cent and the remaining 20 will be added from internal assessment.
In the 20-per cent internal assessment, the committee has recommended an average of formative assessment at four different intervals.
Formative assessment will include a 20-mark test and 30 marks for activities (physical and health education, attitude, values and art education). The subcommittee also recommended that the number of preparatory exams be limited to two.
The Commissioner for Public Instruction, Mohammed Mohsin, said they had not yet arrived at the specifics based on the subcommittee’s recommendations. “It has to be decided how the 20 marks for internal assessment will be evaluated,” he said.
